Yale docs reverse Type 2 diabetes in rats

Yale researchers have developed an oral therapy that reverses Type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease in rats.

The researchers used a chemical called DNP, which was considered as a weight-loss drug 70 years ago. At the time, the U.S. government deemed the drug “extremely dangerous and not fit for human consumption.”

“Given these promising results in animal models of NAFLD/NASH and type 2 diabetes we are pursuing additional preclinical safety studies to take [DNP] approach to the clinic” said Dr. Gerald I. Shulman, who led the Yale researchers.
